EDIT: In response to the owner's reply below, the price quoted over the phone was $95. They never told me to stay and wait because they didn't know I was stepping out in the first place, which I only did briefly because they said it would take 30 minutes to arrive at the condo. I still find it unreasonable that they charge up to $50 extra when you are already paying $95 for a service that took 5 minutes.

I was locked out of my apartment and my concierge called this business for me to help get my door unlocked. They told the concierge they were half an hour away, and that it typically takes 15-30 minutes to get the doors unlocked. Instead of waiting 30+ minutes in the lobby, I went out to run an errand and came back within the time they were supposed to be there. When I came back, my concierge let me in and told me that the rep had already finished and was waiting for me - they had arrived within a few minutes instead of 30, and managed to unlock my door in about 5 minutes. I apologized for keeping him waiting, but was told they were going to charge me $50 extra (on top of $100 for the unlocking that took 5 minutes) for waiting for me. Apparently they had to push a couple of appointments back because they were waiting - keeping in mind that this is all within the span of less than one hour. Do all of their appointments take 5 minutes to unlock, and are they all located next to each other that they missed two appointments because I made them wait a maximum of 15-30 minutes? I told the rep that I came back within the time that was quoted and he said he could reduce the extra charge to $30, but I still ended up paying $130. I told my concierge about this and they said they will no longer be using this company.

I really enjoy going here because there's never a line and the people that man the store are always very nice.

Mr. Kim, operator of the downtown location showed up at the time specified to replace a bottom cylindrical lock on a glass door, and did what seems like a professional/adequate job: BIG miscommunication over price though. My biggest grievance is that he specifically said that he would assess the condition and give me a quote on site BEFORE any work was to begin. Instead he went to work straight away and slapped me with the bill afterwards: bad business ethics.

The total price ended up being $150 dollars. I didn't haggle at this point since the job was already finished, but it all felt wrong, and after having it weigh on me for some time, I called another locksmith who said such a job would cost no more than $100 dollars, but more importantly, that they would send someone out to give me a free assessment ON-SITE first. In my opinion, Mr. Kim did try to squeeze out a top notch rate at the last minute, so be very clear to settle on a price before any work begins. Either way, what's undeniable is his rates and the services that he does offer are not at all competitive, and I've dealt with a number of locksmiths over the years.

He showed up very uncommunicative while I was standing-by waiting for the assessment first, as promised. "Don't mind me, and just do your thing," he said briskly as he tampered with the door, so I took a moment to make a few phone calls. When I checked back with him the job was done, and then came the bill. I phoned him back to complain about this, and he then said that he does not perform on site assessments, and claims that he stated over the phone that it would cost 125$ minimum. I believe he may have thrown out a ballpark figure at some point, when he said "to replace the whole thing," but I would have had no idea what he was specifically talking about by saying "whole thing" over the phone, which is why the on-site assessment would have solved a lot of problems.

Extremely professional, efficient, and kind. Would highly recommend to anyone who needs a locksmith on short notice.
