I applied for a visa to start on a particular date but the date they actually put on it was four days earlier than this.

The way they overcharged me was by asking me when I'd like it. I asked if they could do it by the following day and they simply said yes. They didn't tell me that this was the most expensive 'very urgent' option. A four-day turnaround would have been fine for me, but they didn't tell me that. Check the prices before you go.

Only get a Visa here if your airline requires you have it before flying out. It's cheaper to use an online agency, $10 to $20 USD and get (pay) the entrance stamp $45 USD on arrival in Vietnam. The consulate charges more than anywhere else and only excepts cash. The price for 3 day turn around is $100 CAD. A friend of mine in China paid $77 CAD at the Vietnam Consulate in Beijing on the same day. I know it's not much money, but it is a strange system when private Visa companies charge less and you don't have to go anywhere for the documents. I hope I see large lines at the Visa counter in HCMC, lol. Then I will appreciate the value of the consulate.

If you're applying for a visa here, beware that they don't unnecessarily overcharge you and check the date of the visa. Also, you don't have to provide a photo or self-addressed delivery envelope if you're going to collect your visa in person, despite what it says on the application form.
